Mayuri Shiina is Rintaro Okabe's childhood friend and the Future Gadget Laboratory's member number 002 in Steins;Gate. A gentle cosplay enthusiast who works at a maid cafe, she greets everyone with "Tuturu" and calls herself Okabe's hostage, a game they have played since childhood.
Mayuri's repeated deaths, which Okabe is unable to prevent no matter how often he leaps back in time, form the harrowing middle of the series and push him to sacrifice the wishes of everyone else in the lab. Her quiet insight into Okabe's suffering shows she understands far more than she says.
