Ai Hoshino
星野アイ
Ai is a legendary idol and the mother of Aqua and Ruby, whose life and death drive the entire story of Oshi no Ko.
Overview
Ai Hoshino is the idol at the heart of Oshi no Ko, the centre of the group B-Komachi and mother of the twins Aqua and Ruby. Believing she cannot truly love anyone, she builds her career on the idea that lying to fans is itself a form of love, and she gives birth in secret at sixteen.
Her murder by an obsessed fan in the extended first episode is the event that drives the entire series, and her final words to her children are among the most discussed scenes in recent anime. Flashbacks gradually reveal the childhood that made her, and the identity of the twins' father.
Ai's star-shaped pupils and the opening song "Idol" by YOASOBI, which topped global charts, made her a cultural phenomenon. She is voiced by Rie Takahashi in Japanese and Bryn Apprill in English.
