Overview
Thorfinn Karlsefni is the protagonist of Vinland Saga, Makoto Yukimura's historical manga adapted by Wit Studio in 2019 and MAPPA in 2023. Raised in Iceland as the son of the retired warrior Thors, he joins the mercenary band of Askeladd after Askeladd kills his father, seeking revenge in a duel.
The first season follows Thorfinn as a savage young fighter in the Danish invasion of England alongside Prince Canute. The second season, set on a farm in Denmark after his dream of revenge collapses, shows his slow rebirth as a man who refuses violence and vows to found a land without war in Vinland.
Loosely based on the historical explorer, Thorfinn's arc is widely praised as one of anime's finest character transformations. He is voiced by Yuto Uemura in Japanese and Aleks Le in English.
