Askeladd
アシェラッド
Askeladd is a cunning mercenary leader who killed Thorfinn's father and becomes one of the most complex characters in anime.
Overview
Askeladd is the leader of a Viking mercenary band and the central antagonist of the first season of Vinland Saga. The son of a Danish lord and a Welsh slave, he despises the Norse world even as he thrives in it, and he kills Thorfinn's father Thors while pretending to accept a duel.
Askeladd keeps Thorfinn in his band for years, granting him duels he always wins and shaping him into a killer. His intelligence and long-term scheming culminate in his manipulation of Prince Canute and the shocking climax in King Sweyn's court.
Charismatic, cynical and ultimately loyal to a dream of Wales, Askeladd is regularly ranked among the best-written villains in anime. He is voiced by Naoya Uchida in Japanese and Kenny Green in English.
