Canute is the prince of Denmark who undergoes dramatic character development to become a powerful king.
Overview
Canute is the Danish prince who becomes King of England and Denmark in Vinland Saga, based on the historical Cnut the Great. Introduced as a timid, effeminate boy protected by the warrior Ragnar, he falls into the hands of Askeladd's band during the invasion of England.
After Ragnar's death Canute undergoes a stunning transformation, rejecting God's love in favour of building paradise on earth by force. In the second season he is the ruthless king whose plans to seize Ketil's farm bring him back into conflict with Thorfinn, now a pacifist.
Canute's evolution from frightened prince to calculating monarch mirrors Thorfinn's journey in reverse. He is voiced by Kensho Ono in Japanese and Griffin Burns in English.
