Guts is the protagonist of Berserk, a warrior who survives the Eclipse and seeks revenge against Griffith.
Overview
Guts is the protagonist of Berserk, Kentaro Miura's dark fantasy manga adapted into anime in 1997, a film trilogy in 2012 and a series in 2016. Born from the corpse of a hanged woman, he is raised as a mercenary and grows into a swordsman who wields a sword far too large for any ordinary man.
The Golden Age arc follows his years in the Band of the Hawk under Griffith and his love for Casca, ending in the Eclipse, where Griffith sacrifices the band to become a demon lord. Branded for sacrifice, Guts becomes the Black Swordsman, hunting apostles with the Dragonslayer sword and later the Berserker Armour.
Guts' endurance in the face of relentless suffering has made him one of the most iconic figures in manga. He is voiced by Nobutoshi Canna in the 1997 anime and Hiroaki Iwanaga in later adaptations, and by Marc Diraison and Kaiji Tang in English.
