Yuki Souma
草摩由希
Yuki Soma is the rat of the Soma family zodiac in Fruits Basket. Though popular at school, he struggles with his traumatic past under Akito.
Overview
Yuki Sohma is one of the main characters of Fruits Basket and the Sohma cursed by the spirit of the rat. Admired at school as the untouchable "Prince Yuki", he is in reality socially anxious and scarred by an isolated childhood under the family head Akito.
Living with Tohru Honda and Shigure Sohma, he slowly learns to build real friendships, joining the student council and befriending Kakeru Manabe and Machi Kuragi. His feud with the cat, Kyo Sohma, is later reframed as two boys trapped by the same curse.
Yuki's arc, in which he recognizes that he saw Tohru as a mother figure rather than a romantic partner, is often praised as an unusually mature turn in shojo storytelling. He is voiced by Nobunaga Shimazaki in Japanese and Eric Vale in English in the 2019 series.
