Subaru Natsuki
ナツキ・スバル
Subaru Natsuki is the protagonist of Re:Zero, a Japanese teenager transported to another world with the ability to Return by Death, resetting time when he dies.
Overview
Subaru Natsuki is the protagonist of Re:Zero - Starting Life in Another World, the light-novel series by Tappei Nagatsuki adapted by White Fox from 2016. An ordinary Japanese shut-in transported to the kingdom of Lugunica, he has no combat ability but possesses Return by Death, which sends him back to a checkpoint whenever he dies.
He cannot tell anyone about this power without being harmed, so he endures brutal deaths and time loops alone to protect Emilia, whom he meets in the capital, and the maids Rem and Ram of Roswaal's mansion. His breakdowns, especially in the arcs involving the Witch's Cult and the White Whale, are the emotional core of the story.
Subaru's flaws and slow growth into a genuinely capable strategist made him one of the most discussed isekai protagonists. He is voiced by Yusuke Kobayashi in Japanese and Sean Chiplock in English.
