Overview
L, whose full name is L Lawliet, is the world's greatest detective and the main antagonist to Light Yagami in Death Note. Operating anonymously through his handler Watari, he takes on the Kira case and quickly deduces that Kira is in the Kanto region of Japan.
L is instantly recognisable for his hunched posture, bare feet, sweet tooth and habit of crouching in chairs. Despite his eccentricities he is a formidable strategist, and his suspicion of Light drives the tense first half of the series.
His death midway through the story is one of the most famous moments in anime. L is voiced by Kappei Yamaguchi in Japanese and Alessandro Juliani in English.
