Overview
Spike Spiegel is the protagonist of Cowboy Bebop, Shinichiro Watanabe's 1998 space-western series from Sunrise. A bounty hunter aboard the ship Bebop with his partner Jet Black, later joined by Faye Valentine, Ed and the corgi Ein, Spike drifts from job to job in a lazily cool manner that hides a violent past.
He was once an enforcer of the Red Dragon crime syndicate, and his history with the rival Vicious and the woman Julia forms the series' tragic spine. Spike fights with Jeet Kune Do, a Jericho 941 pistol and the fighter craft Swordfish II, and his cybernetic eye leaves him, in his words, watching a dream he never wakes from.
His arc culminates in the two-part finale The Real Folk Blues, one of the most celebrated endings in anime. Spike is voiced by Koichi Yamadera in Japanese and Steve Blum in English.
