How do I watch Monogatari Series in order?
Watch Monogatari Series (物語シリーズ) in release order, starting with Bakemonogatari (2009, 15 episodes) and finishing with Zoku Owarimonogatari (2018). This guide covers 13 entries — 12 essential to the main story and 1 optional side story, spin-offs or recaps — released across 2009 to 2024. By format that is 8 TV series, 4 films and 1 ONA, 100 episodes in all, roughly 50 hours of viewing, animated by Shaft. The essential run is Bakemonogatari, Kizumonogatari I: Tekketsu-hen, Kizumonogatari II: Nekketsu-hen, Kizumonogatari III: Reiketsu-hen, Nisemonogatari and Nekomonogatari: Kuro, plus 6 more. It is a complex watch order: the franchise branches, and the sequence below is the one that keeps the story readable. The numbered list underneath is the short version; the timeline after it gives every entry its year, episode count, essential-or-optional status and the notes that explain why. If you are working outwards from here, our The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya watch order covers the neighbouring franchises.

Frequently Asked Questions
What order should I watch Monogatari?
Watch in release order: Bakemonogatari → Kizumonogatari trilogy → Nisemonogatari → Nekomonogatari Kuro → Second Season → and so on. This is the intended viewing experience.
When should I watch Kizumonogatari?
Either after Bakemonogatari (release order) or before everything (chronological). Both work well, but release order is recommended for first-time viewers.
Is Monogatari hard to follow?
It can be. The series features heavy dialogue, wordplay, non-linear storytelling, and fast text screens. However, the character development and mysteries are rewarding for attentive viewers.
Where does Off Season and Monster Season fit?
These are newer entries continuing after Zoku Owarimonogatari. Watch them after completing the main series in release order.
